I have been in the hospital here for kidney stones. A royal pain where one plucks his bottom half. They took an ultra sound finding this pesky thing. Too small to smash into dust and low in the kidney. They claim it is hard to accomplish. What next Doc? In the hospital each morning for about 4 hours getting IV's and a few shots to help this. So far well nothing but a bill which the school insurance people will repay me. Yeah
So in the hospital room and lying down on the bed. A cute nurse comes in speaking Chinese to me with a broad smile. She brought in a few things to hook up the solutions which will enter my body. Looks at my hand prepares it for the small needle being inserted into my arm. Ok Norm it will not hurt so ok I thought. Hmm ouchhhhh yeah thanks dear. Smiles then leaves. I am flat on m my back just relaxing and waiting for the bottles to empty into my system. The doc comes in speaking broken English but understood what he was saying. Then another one comes in with a better understanding of the language. My student was there so she listened to what was being spoken. Not bad was the verdict. Good news oh you will die that is good news sure and the bad news you'll live another 40 years. Sure sweetheart. Anyway after the bottles are emptied into me out comes the needle time to hit the can and empty my bladder. Ahh feel much better this time. See you in the morning.
So life here is not that bad plus more interesting. Like being here really. Been here 3 years in Zhengzhou. A huge city which is old but older than the hills. Not many historical places to check into though. Crowded with hordes of cars and bikes. Yep Bikes are used and almost all Chinese have at least one at home. Seeing 5,000 of them racing on the streets well watch out and be careful.
Until next time
The only man who is really free is the one who can turn down an invitation to dinner without giving an excuse.
Excuses are the nails used to build a house of failure.
Don't make excuses - make good.
He who excuses himself accuses himself.
Several excuses are always less convincing than one.
Maybe you don't like your job, maybe you didn't get enough sleep, well nobody likes their job, nobody got enough sleep. Maybe you just had the worst day of your life, but you know, there's no escape, there's no excuse, so just suck up and be nice.
How strange to use "You only live once" as an excuse to throw it away.
Don't do what you'll have to find an excuse for.
No one ever excused his way to success.
Excuses are the tools with which persons with no purpose in view build for themselves great monuments of nothing.
Bad excuses are worse than none.
A lie is an excuse guarded.
Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anyone else expects of you. Never excuse yourself.
If you don't want to do something, one excuse is as good as another. We excuse our sloth under the pretext of difficulty.
Whoever wants to be a judge of human nature should study people's excuses.
We have more ability than will power, and it is often an excuse to ourselves that we imagine that things are impossible.
Two wrongs don't make a right, but they make a good excuse.
Difficulty is the excuse history never accepts.
Pessimism is an excuse for not trying and a guarantee to a personal failure.
Destiny: A tyrant's authority for crime and a fool's excuse for failure.
Every vice has its excuse ready.
We are all manufacturers - some make good, others make trouble, and still others make excuses. One of the most important tasks of a manager is to eliminate his people's excuses for failure.
Your letter of excuses has arrived. I receive the letter but do not admit the excuses except in courtesy, as when a man treads on your toes and begs your pardon - the pardon is granted, but the joint aches, especially if there is a corn upon it.
Bad men excuse their faults; good men abandon them.
He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else.
It is wise to direct your anger towards problems - not people, to focus your energies on answers - not excuses.
We have forty million reasons for failure, but not a single excuse.
The person who really wants to do something finds a way; the other person finds an excuse.
Justifying a fault doubles it.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
Usually, terrible things that are done with the excuse that progress requires them are not really progress at all, but just terrible things.
Sometimes I wish I had a terrible childhood, so that at least I'd have an excuse.
Never ruin an apology with an excuse.
We all have many different beliefs.. Maybe for a few if I speak of beliefs one might think religion while religion is not in my vocabulary much and really do not discuss it. I believe that wellif you do good and do good then you should have no problems. I believe that man in general is of good moral character. Maybe believing in something is much better but believe in what you really wantto is far better. Hope that you enjoy the following on beliefs.
There are two ways to slide easily through life: to believe everything or to doubt everything; both ways save us from thinking.
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.
Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it.
In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can't build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery and death.
What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way.
Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true. [paraphrased]
Habits of thought persist through the centuries; and while a healthy brain may reject the doctrine it no longer believes, it will continue to feel the same sentiments formerly associated with that doctrine.
The mind can assert anything and pretend it has proved it. My beliefs I test on my body, on my intuitional consciousness, and when I get a response there, then I accept.
Nothing is easier than self-deceit. For what each man wishes, that he also believes to be true.
The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.
It is not bigotry to be certain we are right; but it is bigotry to be unable to imagine how we might possibly have gone wrong.
Myths which are believed in tend to become true.
One needs something to believe in, something for which one can have whole-hearted enthusiasm. One needs to feel that one's life has meaning, that one is needed in this world.
Nothing else matters much -- not wealth, nor learning, nor even health -- without this gift: the spiritual capacity to keep zest in living. This is the creed of creeds, the final deposit and distillation of all important faiths: that you should be able to believe in life.
Only barbarians are not curious about where they come from, how they came to be where they are, where they appear to be going, whether they wish to go there, and if so, why, and if not, why not.
If you must tell me your opinions, tell me what you believe in. I have plenty of douts of my own.
It is always easier to believe than to deny. Our minds are naturally affirmative.
I have known many good people who did not believe in God. But I have never known a human being who was good who did not believe in people. [language slightly modified]
To succeed, we must first believe that we can.
I feel no need for any other faith than my faith in the kindness of human beings. I am so absorbed in the wonder of earth and the life upon it that I cannot think of heaven and angels.
When men destroy their old gods they will find new ones to take their place.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
Belief consists in accepting the affirmations of the soul; Unbelief, in denying them.
A person will worship something, have no doubt about that. We may think our tribute is paid in secret in the dark recesses of our hearts, but it will out. That which dominates our imaginations and our thoughts will determine our lives, and our character. Therefore, it behooves us to be careful what we worship, for what we are worshipping we are becoming.
I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge -- myth is more potent than history -- dreams are more powerful than facts -- hope always triumphs over experience -- laughter is the cure for grief -- love is stronger than death.
I always try to believe the best of everybody -- it saves so much trouble.
Some beliefs are like walled gardens. They encourage
exclusiveness, and the feeling of being especially privileged.
Other beliefs are expansive and lead the way into wider and
deeper sympathies.
An idealist believes the short run doesn't count. A cynic believes the long run doesn't matter. A realist believes that what is done or left undone in the short run determines the long run.
All ... religions show the same disparity between belief and practice, and each is safe till it tries to exclude the rest. Test each sect by its best or its worst as you will, by its high-water mark of virtue or its low-water mark of vice. But falsehood begins when you measure the ebb of any other religion against the flood-tide of your own. There is a noble and a base side to every history.
As long as people believe in absurdities, they will continue to commit atrocities.
Belief in a certain series of myths was neither obligatory as a part of the true religion, nor was it supposed that, by believing, a man acquired religious merit and conciliated the favour of the gods.
Well, here I am sitting here doin a blog late on Wednesday afternoon. The day was pretty good in ways but well in some ways boring. No classes today but have 2 onThursday morning then I can say well here we go the week is coming to a close.I am trying to see what I can do with this simple word.
Well if you like it buy it.
Well if it rains be happy and enjoy the day.
Well why do you ask me so many stupid questions?
Well for today it was good but for yesterday I just cannot really remember.
Well here I am living and working in Zhengzhou China.
Well my parent hated me all my life and now it's over and she cannot hate anymore.
Well my divorce has been over for 19 years and still remain single while not wanting to marry again.
Well my youngest sister told me she really hated me and wished that I was dead.
Well for today it is pretty cold but sunny.
Well tonight will have a few friends over for dinner and see what in the hell they will create for me.
Well dear friends all that I can really say is that I'm not sure what to really say.
Well believe me it's harder to develop a friendship when you are not really friends with yourself.
Well iut is time to check out the food at the supermarket.
Well in time I'll most likely will also depart this world for someplace else but who will miss me?
Well I am not sure if anyone will read this and if you do thanks so much.
I have been sitting here at my desk for several hours thinking about many things while wondering just what to put down inthis blog. Of course like to do many things and see many things. As a young boy growing up in a house which was not that great wondered if I would survive this long and wondered if life would be better. I asked my parent about this and little in response was given. To me it was really stupid indeed not responding to your offspring with questions that of course needed to be asked.Often wondered why there was no response then it hit me really good. It was clear she did not really love me while thinking oh well this is life.
During the course of my life wondered about just why things were the way they were. Then of course one never really can answer some tough questions. Once when I was married my ex wondered why my parent never called or came to seee us. She wondered just what kind of woman she was not fully coming to the realization that this particular parent hated her offspring and wanted nothing to do with us. Then my ex really thought what kind of person am I while wondering at times why I was so moody. We both could not come to real terms inour union having had a few disagreements over many different things. She wondered if our union will last. Not really after 10 years well we went our own ways while wondering what will happen in the coming years. No need to wonder about this we went our own ways doing what we want and never did look back. This in itself was a very good start.
While here in China had to have surgery. Wondering about the hospital and if it will be safe gave me a few insights into life here. I did wonder if they knew a lot and what kinds of things they use. To my surprise it was just like being in a western hospital. Given first class treatment with a private room. Had to stay in the hospital for 7 days and felt great after it was all completed. No problems after or since. Knew they were just great people while wanting to make sure I understood them and what was going to take place. Wondered just why things had to happen but in many ways really did not care. My concern was getting well and being very happy.
Wondered once why the people of the world are the way they are. Some people care for themselves only while others care for those who live out among the city. The people here are wonderful. At first wondered what it would be like living here. No big problem. The city has most of what I need. The school provides me with many things while at the same time give all I can to my students and hope for the best. Wondered if I could really make it through daily life which was unknown for me. Sure enough have really survived and knew that this is the place where for this individual life will be more enjoyable.
